Adoption: Never on Our Time!

2014 was a year of roller coaster for our adoption.  We planned (like the last adoption update said) to switch our documents to Bulgaria after the unrest in Ukraine started.  During this time we were in contact with some very prominent leaders in Mexico who were willing to help us do an adoption from there.  This possibility excited us very much because Travis' sister and brother in law live in Mexico and are in the process of starting an orphanage there.  http://www.ancladeamor.com/
Things sounded very promising so we put a hold on our Bulgarian papers to pursue this avenue.  To make a long story short.  The connection that we had changes positions and with that our hopes fell through and we were again back to our plan B.  Our agency is still working hard to set up a program with Mexico so that people from here can adopt however it will take 2-3 years for them to get through that process and become approved in Mexico.  We really pray that they will  be able to make a go of it there so that more Mexican children can have families of their own.  So we got our paperwork together for Bulgaria once again and now our agency has sent our documents to Ottawa to be sealed as well as to Bulgaria to be translated in order to submit them to the government there.  So shortly after Christmas we hope to be registered with the adoption authority in Bulgaria and on the list to receive a referral.
Once we receive a referral which will consist of pictures, a medical and life history, we will travel to B to meet them for 5 days.  If all goes well then we come home and the court dates and paper work is done while we wait at home for 5-6 months and then we return to pick up the children.
This process has taken so many twists and turns that we had not expected but we know that the Lord has a plan and his timing is perfect. These children or child will be in our home no sooner and no later than He has ordained them to be.
In the mean time we are working hard at ourselves and working through our pasts so that we will better be able to help these children work through theirs.  God's story is still being written.

  2. It's too bad the adoption process has to be such an ordeal, especially when there are children waiting for parents. But it's great that you are so patient and trusting in the Lord and His timing. He already knows your children and has plans for their future with your family. Thanks for the update! Look forward to more news. ;)
